As a sound healing and voice healing practitioner, I have always been amazed at the power of sound and its ability to heal the body and soul. After successful clinical practice I moved into the world of teaching Toning for Singing for performers and feel humbled and privileged to be with some of the best voice practitioners in the world. So I want to debunk the myth about pop/rock and any singing that is not under the “healing” label.
We have moved into an intellectualising of sound healing as well as a reverence for the universe/God, which can sometimes be a little forgetful that each person’s soul on this earth has a unique gift all of their own however that manifests. Every one of us as we all say in voice healing “is born with a beautiful voice”. When this is then compartmentalised into “ beautiful when it’s not rock music, or a music we think is not of an angelic realm” it means we are not only shifting our perceptions into what we think is higher, but we are actively denying another souls spiritual presence in sound.
The universe is full of very strong, very dark energy and most healing takes place through the darkness of trauma and disaster before light shows the soul peace and love. As above, so below, means that we are the substance of the universe, of stars; the explosive, volcanic heat and fire; the cold, dark, ice; the electric & electromagnetic; and the ebb and flow of chemical exchange. We are active beings not passive ones and in order to have balance on earth we represent that activity in a myriad of ways. The universe is violent as well as beautiful and planets and stars are born of violent natural activity. Part of this is through sound because as we have identified all of creation holds sound waves & frequencies, vibrations that carry light. Chaos in sound creates.
The voice carries both light and dark of the soul. In its expression it cries out to be heard in whatever music and speech comes forth. In that expression it represents the soul producing the sound and the collective who need to hear it and be part of that expression. The voice is the sound of the heart and the heart is full of electromagnetic energy. This energy field extends around the body and when it connects with another we feel “resonance” or “dissonance”. At this point our heart sings or refuses to sing and we then make a decision on how we process that vibration. Our voice reflects every moment of this exchange and interchange. If our associations have been dark we will sing darkness, if they have been happy we will sing happiness. The songs we hear are those reflections and those songs heal the singer of them, and the listeners who resonate with them.
The very interesting observation I have made in performance teaching is the amazing transfer of resonance when a singer copies another singer. Even though the voice is unique, the resonant exchange from mimicking allows the receiving singer to have all the bad habits of vocal technique as well as the sounds of the good part of the singing. Humans uniquely have the Hyoid Bone to allow copying of sounds, which is why we could learn the animal sounds, nature sounds and toning in our initial years on earth. This also allows us to pick up anything – good or bad for reproducing in our own voices. When we heal our own voices, we are sifting out inherited resonances.
In the world of voice coaches, teachers, speech therapists and Laryngologists there is a whole other side to voice healing, the process of “healing the voice”. Many singers have damaged or are damaging their vocal folds/larynx’s because they want to sing and sing like their heroes, or have had no voice training, or have excessively used their voices and projection through the mask. This brings a new danger for the voice and for would be voice practitioners coming from the world of singing.
Toning is useful for voice rehabilitation and in addition it helps the young voice develop safely through the adolescent years. A new voice healing practitioner must really work on their own voice to ensure that the resonance of projection they may have used in their singing career is not transferred to the client in the healing partnership.
This is where the use of intent should be discouraged. INTENT = WILL
Our will is not how voice healing should be delivered. The voice carries our will and will can be manipulated and can be used destructively with or without consciousness.
In order to rise above will, the practitioner must “surrender” to the universe/God as a healing instrument and pure channel, so that the voice “comes through” the healer “for the clients highest good” and is not marred by thought or intention. Too many practitioners want to “heal” their clients from their own reasons and this is not the way of healing. Healing miracles can happen and equally change is not a cure but a process of allowance and gentle support for the soul’s journey. We do not know that soul’s journey and we are only guides and helpers. Sometimes our own thoughts may mar or suppress the healing for that person.
In order to deliver healing the healer must heal their voice. Anything less is a disservice to the receiver of voice healing. To heal your own voice, you have to work at it and make your personal healing shifts and balance the ego.
In the medical world of voice healing there are good things and not so good things, but a teacher of mine once said of healing “we have to remember that sometimes the ultimate healing is in the surgeon’s knife”. Sadly that is often the case for many singers out there.
The singer Adele had no vocal training, she sings from her soul. The gruelling tour schedules take their toll on singer’s voices. She suffered a vocal haemorrhage and may never sing as she did, even though she is back, her voice will never be exactly the same. Millions idolise her voice and try to sing like her.
The rock singer Paul Rogers has been out there singing for 30+ years and is a legend. The wannabe rock singers want to emulate their heroes too. He is a good example of how to look after the voice you are born with and sing the music you love. His singing is healing to those who want to hear it.
When we get lost in the good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful in music, remember the voice has the most flexibility of all, is unique due to its structure and resonant make up of its instrument – the human body, heart and soul, and carries the potential to heal or to destroy. Just because we have evidence to show that rock music can be harmful, what evidence have we found to show its healing potential? Primal screams in rock music act as catalysts for listeners who have never screamed and may never scream, but the vocalist singing that music allows them the resonance. Gregorian Chant has another purpose and carries beautiful angelic tones.
As dynamic beings and powerful beings, sometimes angelic music is what we want, other times we may need music that represents our power surges whatever that may be? We sing the expression of where we are at that moment in time. Those of you teaching singers or singing yourselves, or healing with the voice; how far down the healing route of acceptance and surrender have you journeyed? Have you allowed your desired healing voice to ultimately heal and accept your own voice? In so doing do you recognise the power in your clients voices and the wisdom they bring you?
All voices have the power to heal; the ultimate voice healing is in healing your own voice to heal the voices of others who need you.

Definition of toning:- to make a sound with an elongated vowel over an extended period
The voice and throat are like a bottle neck for the mind and hearts unexpressed thoughts and feelings which can cause a block in the free flowing energy of our singing. This build up will create tension and imbalance in the sounds we make and can internalise to cause illness in the physical body in some way. You can use your voice to express these thoughts and feelings rather than keeping them locked inside. This is where toning is most powerful, as it can transform pain and sorrow, relax and energise too.
The Benefits of toning are:-
 it allows for a release of psychological stress
 it reduces tension
 it will lower blood pressure and respiratory rate
 it will oxygenate blood
 it will deepen and extend breathing
 it will relax muscles
 it will clear blockages and stimulate the energy flow in the whole body
 it will massage ( by vibration) and tune up the whole body
 it will reduce pain
 it will stabilise emotions and allow them to be expressed in a safe unthreatening way
 it will help vitalise the whole body, encouraging it to work more efficiently
 it has no side effects

The guide for good toning:-
 Make the sound carefully and gently
 Do not strain or project the voice
 Allow yourself to be guided by your intuition – don’t think about it!
 The Vibratory sensation should be allowed to go where it is needed
 Don’t place it anywhere or try to hold it back
 The sound you make will be your natural voice, don’t try and pitch the sound
 If the sound seems odd, broken in some way, don’t worry about it, you will be clearing something.
 The tones will become smoother, sweeter and more ringing with practise.

Suppression, Passion & Sound in the Darkness January 23, 2011

Each of us has our unique Vibrational insight that we share in the sound community. These wonderful experiences and input contribute to the understanding that vibration is multitudinous, multidimensional, constant and ever changing. It is something we will always be learning about and never really master because we only co-create in this vast cosmos and do so by our understanding at any given point in time. We continually create, destroy and create just as the planets, the stars and everything else in universal vibration does.

It has taken me a long journey to finally stand in my own vibration of knowing I am here to deal with more of the negative side and bring a deeper understanding of that amongst our world of light. Understanding that in order to bring in light, I have to go to the darkness for the answers. This means that to bring in sound healing we may often delve into dark places to free light. I have trained in and practised vibrational medicine incorporating nutrition, flower essences, light/colour energy and sound healing, and music and singing. I have come to a point in my unique path of understanding that I have a challenging role for myself and others in bringing through an understanding of the balance required with darkness and negativity when we carry the light to others. It has taken courage for me to finally write this amongst the sound and healing community.

The Greeks believed the world came from “Χάσς” (Chaos) – a gap – referring to a primordial state before creation which is in darkness. Science knows the universe is made up of 90% dark matter but doesn’t know what it is. We know that sound creates chaos in cells before it reorganises into perfect balance. We also know that sound carries the light due to the different density of frequencies and we know that no two human voices are exactly the same vibratory pattern. When we teach and give sound, and/or when we receive sound, we should be aware that chaos may be created inside cells that may lead a person into darkness within themselves and not necessarily move them immediately into light. We know thought carries vibration and so we say that providing we use the right “intent” with the sound we give, the person will receive what they need. The flaw in this is that intent is mind controlled and our minds play with our hearts and for our hearts to be pure in their love and light, the mind has to be out of the way. Intent can be manipulated by will. This can be the will to help, the will to heal, and the will to show that we can help people. That is not a bad thing, but it still carries an element of will and in order to allow a person’s journey completely through divine love requires surrender and humility to accepting there may also be darkness in this healing journey. The person may not be in the right place to just transform or release what the healer thinks needs to be released. The chaos, the darkness has to be acknowledged, accepted and loved.

I work with voice and in voice we believe we bring divine love with our healing tones; I believe we do that too. However I also know that many more aspects of a person’s vibration will affect them when sound is brought into their system. Light, colour, food, essences, homoeopathy, vaccines, drugs, alcohol, aromatherapy oils, perfumes, the movement of chi and prana, are all affected in a person’s cell physiology when we start to create chaos in their cellular vibration. What appears to be harmless can become harmful if we are not carrying awareness.

My personal journey with sound has been dual edged. I have also seen my experiences mirrored in other people too. It is quite hard for me to stand up and perform as a singer or be considered an expert author or any particular title and label, because I don’t have an ego that needs that, I am just who I am. I love to sing and for me that is all, no need to perform and be idolised, no desire to be famous. I just love singing and being the song. I started as a child, and then I stopped for many years, returning to sound and voice through sound healing. I had so much joy in rediscovering my voice, just as we see all our clients do. I then had a vibratory reaction and developed Fibromyalgia which I carried for 7 years and finally healed from it 14 months ago. An overdose of sound took me there. I did too much and the resulting chaos in my cells took me into suppression. For several years I then turned away from sound and any healing. I had also been working in practice at a clinic for two years very successfully helping many others with sound. I lost my energy, I lost my passion and I sank into some very deep depressions. Always known to be a happy person generally and positive, this was a Hilary many didn’t recognise including myself. I started to find healing sound irritating and couldn’t listen to it or receive it. I couldn’t cope with environmental vibration, shops, lights, electrical currents etc. All the things our clients come to us with and where many people now live in a state of avoidance of what they consider is harmful vibration to them. After withdrawing from the healing world and spending some time in Greece where chaos is still very much alive ha ha! My body began to restore, release and rebalance. I connected with life again and believe me Greece is chemically and environmentally challenging as well as noisy! I went into the darkness many times to get my answers. I have seen others in workshops without passion, caught up in thinking that being in light is calm and tranquil and having power, passion and purpose is somehow alien. That happened with me, losing my sense of humour, losing my joy, trying to make sense of all the wonderful, positive, blissful moments we enjoy but somehow feeling empty of passion and life.

We do make healing shifts and you are probably saying that was just my healing journey, maybe you are right, maybe you are wrong, it certainly was and is my journey, and one I am making to bring through the truth of darkness. We all help people make shifts in their vibration and experience blissful moments and healing miracles. However let us start to learn and accept the dark vibrations as our teachers. The power in the silent screams and cries, the power of the inner voice trapped inside that brings strength, resolve and transforms. Understand that too much light can cause suppression and intensify darkness. Anything swinging the pendulum beyond centre creates imbalance. Too much sun burns and dries, too much rain floods and devastates. Night and day work in a harmonious cycle, both are necessary for all vibratory life on our planet.

As I journeyed through the outer world, my inner voice was always strong. On the days when I couldn’t sing or tone or had no inclination too, the inner voice lifted me through the darkness. The passion of my inner voice began to fuel the return of my energy and I returned as I am now to sing and teach again but from a very different perspective. So many people want to sing that it is not just a healing route, but a natural way of being. People want to express their hearts vibration, their joy & passion, pain & sorrow, anger & frustration. I have gone deeply into the heart and maybe we should remember that the heart is encased inside us, protected in darkness. The heart of earth is in darkness and the heart of the universe is in darkness. Our minds need light which is why our organs for light are held in our brain, but our brains are in darkness. When we “enlighten” we speak of our minds because our hearts already carry the light of love inside us. We free it from the prison of our minds. This is where the success of sound really shows itself, in bypassing the mind, in coming out from the heart and into the heart. The heart holds our rhythmic vibration and our unique frequency pattern. We express it through our voice. The voice is also the voice of the musician who plays an outer instrument, the voice expressed through his instrument be it violin, drums/percussion, harp, piano, guitar, tamboura etc. The human voice as instrument is unique in its vibration, but we also have unique musicians, artists, poets etc. Each one expresses their hearts voice.
Therefore darkness and light co-exist in transformative and healing power. Dark can bring light, light can bring dark. I find a lot of creativity in my darkest moments and many stars of stage and screen have been known to be depressives in their personal lives yet bring light, hope and fun to their audiences. We can be most in touch with God in dark moments because we are stripped of anything else, vulnerable, exposed, naked in our despair, connected to the nothingness. I first went through this in 1998 and again during the Fibromyalgia and again this Christmas. I finally surrendered to bringing this message through. My journey was to show both sides of sound, I found my voice again and to bring this insight to others. I know many of you will challenge this and I look forward to your comments.

Balance between the light and dark is essential, without sorrow we do not know joy, without fear we do not know love, without pain we do not know freedom. The dualities and polarities of our vibratory existence take us through the cosmogony of life. As sound healers we need to embrace the healing power of ALL sound and music, whatever style, genre, or how it is delivered. If we do not , we are denying the creator of that sound or piece of music and the universal input and healing that has come from the creator through the vehicle expressing it. Just because we don’t like it and we have done research to show it can be harmful, doesn’t mean that it might be the right “chaos” for the creator and the receiver. Our sound vibration is ours, another person’s is theirs. We enter their soundscape when we practise sound healing and their vibration enters ours. We turn duality into unity when we meet and when we embrace the dark and the light equally.

When you get a chance – walk out into a peaceful place in the darkest night alone, and listen.
Listen to the sound in the darkness, its vibration is beautiful and very different to the sounds you receive in the daylight.

Love & blessings Hilary

Sound & Silence January 1, 2011

We have just come through the winter solstice. This time it was accompanied with more than usual profound energetic shifts amongst the planets, which have affected us all. We are in a time of great evolutionary Vibrational shifts.
I notice when reading articles that we tend to limit our minds into vibrational frequencies, sounds we can hear and how they affect us. Do we pay enough attention to acknowledging our constant vibratory movement in silence that actually never stops?

In traditional Celtic times the solstice is a time for welcoming the light. The shortest day of the year, marking the return of daylight hours. It is also energetically seen as a time to celebrate this and go within, into the darkness and to be still, to allow what has gone to regenerate into the seeds of the future. To lie dormant for a while and then begin to sprout forth when the spring returns.

What I find at this time of year is a clarity and perception so much sharper than in the summer months. The light has a more ethereal quality about it, the skies carry more mauves, pinks, turquoises as well the sunsets and sunrises having healing gold’s and oranges, rather than the intensity of colour it has in the summer. The snow protects and nourishes the earth as it melts. Whilst it covers the ground it gives us a sense of stillness that we don’t have at other times of the year. The birdsong is around much earlier this year and the colours are vibrant heralding the new to come.

The snow has had its downsides only because in our modern lifestyle we try to go against this time of stillness. We want everything to continue in our lives instead of honouring this time to be still. The Vibrational shifts we are experiencing are here to teach us, to try to make us see the impact of what we have been doing and the necessity to stop, take stock, go within, be still and at the same time move forward. It sharpens our creativity by allowing the time to shift in silence.

The impact on everyone has been profound in the UK with the weather. Chaos has arisen and the economic and political climate is reeling from dealing with this, simply because they are so removed from it, that it doesn’t seem “normal”. They have been pushing us into a depressive vibrational rate because they cannot cope with it and the abnormality of modern life suddenly has to be challenged and changed. Austere measures to bring us back into connectedness. The government represents the vibration of the time.

We cannot actually be still and we cannot actually have complete silence, because in the stillness and in the silence there is a vibration, a movement, a sound we cannot hear. Our sound psyche is affected by inside and outside. In traditional teaching, we can change our outer world through our inner world, but we can change an inner world through our outer world too. I understand vibration now in many different ways; most profound moments come in dark, negative vibration just as much as being in light and positive vibration. The snow, the winter, the austerity actually feed the sound psyche with nourishment you cannot get at other times of the year.

BALANCING HEART & MIND December 30, 2010

It’s been a while since my last article, due to major spiritual growth in me and changes that are preparing me for where I go next!
I don’t really claim to be an expert author or teacher, I just follow my heart and bring the wisdom I am meant to, to those who want to read it/hear it.
Like many of you out there I am on my spiritual path often trying to make sense of what is going on in the world and in me. I’ve explored many avenues and many teachings, and have come to the conclusion that the greatest teacher is within and in life’s ups and downs.
We read about living in a constant state of bliss, peace, love etc and yes this is possible and we can experience this, however we cannot disown the reality of the daily life we are each responsible for creating. All vibration is a vibration of truth, be it sound, light, food, thought, emotion, action, chemical energy, electric energy, electromagnetic energy, nuclear energy. Some of it may harm us; some of it is good for us. All has its place in the universe and the planet.
At the moment the West is on a mission to save the planet, but is it honouring the fact that the earth is teaching US? Is it honouring the fact that the earth has its own cycles? Do we actually accept, embrace and honour we are the same biological intelligence and in saving the earth we are putting our desire to save ourselves into an external source? If our heart tells us to save something do we look deep inside and ask ourselves why? Everyone wants to change the world as though it is an external problem, yet what we have to do is change ourselves and how we relate to our planet. In some areas of environmental understanding people are doing that, but in other areas we are in the flow of marketing campaigns who wish to make us feel guilty or show that they are compassionate towards a cause that is actually a natural part of the earth’s evolution and partly our fault.
When we accept we are each responsible for the life we have created, then we can focus on what we need to do in ourselves to re create a better inner and outer world for ourselves. It isn’t about opting out, flying off into meditative states, or verbalising loving unconditionally….unless….when we go into meditation we bring back the wisdom we need, we deal with our darkness and we don’t expect people to be the same as us. The planet is actually fine…the problem is the human race. It is so diverse that one solution does not suit all.
The only connection that makes us one is in the state of love…this is the eternal bliss state we seek and it cannot be accessed by mind because it is energy with no form. The mind needs form, it cannot cope with formlessness. Therefore the heart is actually the controller but we add our limited thought patterns into the energy of love to try to make sense of it. This then translates through our words and actions and what we identify with as love.
We are in times of great change globally and spiritually. We are being challenged in our lives, our ways of working and living, our ways of interrelating with one another. To understand unconditional love, we have to take our conditions out of it. To ask someone to love you unconditionally has a condition; can you love them without projecting your own desires and needs onto them? Can you love them and forgive them whatever they have done to you or others? Can you let go of a relationship with love if the person says they don’t feel the same about you? Can you accept the criminal has a place in this world of love? Do you judge the behaviour of another? Have you forgiven your friend that hurt you over something? Can you honestly love your neighbour?
Walking the path of the Heart takes more than a blissful state and giving out love to those who love you. It means loving those who don’t love you, forgiving those who hurt you, accepting people for who they are. You may not want them in your life, but you may also need to acknowledge they have a journey and a purpose too.
The greatest light workers go into the darkness. The abused, the homeless, the rejected do not have access to the spiritual self growth courses and meditative states that those of us in comfort zones have. They find their truth through their darkness.
Jesus was not a soul without dark moments, neither were the other great Masters. Our lives on this earth are here to teach us how to balance the light and the dark, the love and the fear, the heart and the mind.
We can go into bliss and we can live in love, we have to work at it and we have to understand that whilst it is our natural state, here on earth we still have the lessons we came to learn and the teachings and gifts we came to give each other. Real life is a great teacher…not an illusion.
I will be launching my new workshops around love in 2011…………………maybe you’d like to join me?

The voice of the heart, personal growth, the meaning of life and Divine Love October 13, 2009

Many people ask the questions “What does it all mean?” and “What is the meaning or purpose of life?” We seem to have this inner desire to know who we are, what we are and where we come from. The answer to this eternal question is sought through many avenues which include history, archaeology, religion, spirituality, healing, science, medicine, ancient cultural heritage/ wisdom etc.

The truth is that we really don’t know, but the human desire to seek, explore and question allows personal growth whilst we seek an answer. However, what if the answer is love and nothing tangible? What if the answer is that in order to reach our fullest potential all we have to do is acknowledge the Divine Love within us, live it and be it? Does that seem silly, nonsensical, and even too simple? Being Divine Love is the most difficult challenge we have.

The inner and outer journey I have taken through many aspects of life, brought me back to the voice of our soul, the voice of the heart and Divine Love. I came to realise that if we stopped consciously seeking, accepted being in the moment, in the now, relating to life and each other from the now, we move to that point we are trying to understand about ourselves. We connect with the universal oneness or God which allows us to see why we are here, who we are, and our purpose. Life has to exchange and interchange as it does to make us whole. We awaken our humanity, love each other and our planet and understand that we are the very fabric of life and the universe. Our earth is perfect and each of us is perfect. When we love we see this.

We are in the centre of great human evolutionary change right now and the answer we seek is right there inside our heart. It is time for us to wake up and acknowledge the intelligence and love of the heart.

In my E- book “Voice of The Universal Heart”, I talk primarily about the voice, the heart, vibrational medicine and Divine Love. Here is an extract from the e-book:-

“I believe the heart is the place where we hold the highest energy of love and that love is not an e-motion. It is our natural vibrational and energetic state. When we say we are experiencing a sense of bliss, we are usually in a timeless state of love. We feel at peace. We are happy and we feel at one with everything and everyone. We can move into a state of Divine Love using meditation techniques, vocal tones, or listening to meditation music. It is possible to be very active in our imagination to shift our mind consciousness through visualisation. However, the final surrender is when the heart combines with mind consciousness to take us into the state of love. We do this by training our mind to be still and asking the heart to speak to us. Then, when we are finally quiet enough to hear the voice of our heart, it will speak and the sound will flow up to the mind, allowing the inner sound to travel through the entire energy system to connect with the highest energy of Divine Love.  This vibrational conduit between the heart and the universe/God allows the energy of love to be received and to regenerate the subtle bodies and whole energy field connected with the heart.”

“The heart’s true vibration is love and harmony the body’s natural state. When we are in love, we can feel the energy in our heart leap and connect to the person we love. We see the world and everything in it in a very different way and do not experience time. Time stands still for lovers and their hearts connect wherever they are, even if they are thousands of miles apart. A parent also experiences this heart connection with a child and will usually sacrifice themselves in some way for the love of their child. When we experience love in this way, we act from our soul, with joy, compassion, forgiveness and we heal. It is no coincidence that the best selling records are love songs!”

Our destiny is to become love. The issues we are desperately trying to correct within ourselves and on earth are the very consequence of our separation caused by mind interference alone. We have alienated the heart in our quest for logical answers in the name of progress. We have failed to understand that in our desire for better, we have not recognised the balanced perfection of nature, our own mind and heart have become unbalanced with earth. This is however, our evolution. It is the process of becoming and learning who we are. Our actions determine our future, we create, we destroy and we recreate. We can change our planetary way of living, we can heal, have peace, and put an end to poverty, war and violence, simply by learning to love at the highest level of acceptance and divine love. Accepting we are all here to serve each other and are connected as one universal vibration through love.

We have come a long way with logic; we have quantum physics, understand energy better, and are learning to honour our biology, genes and ancestral influence. Now we must accept that the earth is perfect and it is human beings who have made it imperfect. The better world we seek, the spiritual person we wish to become is already here. When we open our eyes, our ears, our hearts, our voices and act as the loving human beings we truly are, we see that the world we live in, can be recreated. A better, sustainable, loving global community can honour and learn from each other. Every person has value on this earth, every plant, animal and mineral. All jobs are necessary for the functioning of community and society. The Janitor is as important as the Chief Executive and that should never be forgotten. The West is no better than the East, the North no better than the South. There are differences between cultures and each need to learn to love and understand the other. The search for the meaning of life is simple – become love.

In my work with the voice and heart, when the heart is freed, the mind comes into balance and both function synergistically for the greater good of the individual and the whole. Communities connect, support, care, assist each other, respect one another and the planet we live on and allow each other to be who they are. When we love and co-create with love we can change the damage we have done, and restore ourselves and the earth to its natural harmony.

It is easy to talk philosophically about the meaning of life, but actions speak louder than words. Now is the time to accept each others role and understand we are gifts for one another. We should not judge what we think is right or wrong in a person; each of us carries what we see in another. We have a part to play to rise above, lead the way and show that when we become the being of love we are, we attain the power of Divine Love within us. The voice is unique; the purpose of each individual is unique. We can work with the voice to free the heart, become the being of love we truly are and follow our destiny.

Hi I’ve just joined the world of wordpress and thought I’d introduce myself first. So here is my biography and I will start to post regular articles around voice coaching, singing and voice healing. Look forward to meeting all of you who want to open your hearts voice! My website is:-

http://hilarycanto.com/

My father was a fabulous big band singer, at one point sharing the same billing with Judy Garland. He sang like Perry Como but he could sing anything from Frankie Laine’s Jezebel to Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Jr, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Elvis & Pop. I grew up with the music of the great era! People queued in his home town to hear him imitate Gracie Fields! As a child I would climb on his knee on stage and he sang “Daddy’s Little Girl” to me. He was BIG in the Northern Club & UK circuit and I was honoured to work with him as his daughter. We shared a very special musical time together.

I learned to play the flute at age 8. At 10 I trained in classical piano – Royal Schools of Music to Grade 5 Piano & Theory. At 12 I learned to play the organ (Hammonds inc C3, & Lowry’s). I had a great jazz organ teacher using Harry Stoneham music to teach me jazz, swing & contemporary. I supported my father and other artists. I began singing with him before entering the club circuit in the UK as a solo artist, at that time, an excellent training ground. I self taught myself basic guitar and sang country/folk/MOR in those days. I was semi professional until 18 then went professional 6 nights a week for 4 years; I had a great time singing, including some very large music festivals in Holland.

I then spent 25 years in the creative, media, sales/marketing & design business. I employed & trained 12 staff and recruited at the highest level of creative expertise in the UK Advertising Agency scene. A top 3 UK specialist Creative recruitment agency and the first to operate nationally from one office outside London! I sang at the weekends too, but the pressures of business led me to give up singing for 10 years.

In 1998 a major traumatic event, opened me to start writing songs and I returned to music and singing. Whilst running the business, I trained in Natural Nutrition (Naturopathic) & Vibrational Medicine (Flower Essences, Energy Healing and Sound Healing mainly using the voice). I started singing swing/blues with a 12 piece band for a short spell.

I began to draw back from business and worked alongside some enlightened Doctors and complementary therapy leading lights. I set up a healing clinic and was the first person in the UK to use Sound & Voice Healing in a professional situation. I trained with the best and am grateful to Chris James (Australia) for teaching me the power of tones and my first teacher Simon Heather who gave me the start and the science!

From this work, I began performing and teaching again. I realised that integrating voice healing and performance singing would be powerful. The quality and sound of my voice has come through mastering tones and applying it to performance singing. I had a shaky start as a baby nearly dying from choking on bottled milk; later on I had a collapsed lung, so my breathing was never great! I learned to manage my breath whilst singing and playing the organ at the same time (hands, feet and voice), and my true power, technique and breath control came from mastering tones. My global thinking led me to develop my vision to bring the world together in love through singing! To influence the commercial world to sing from the heart and soul and make a positive difference to our world.

Singing is an expression of the heart and soul. Science shows how music bypasses the mind and the voice is the ultimate healing instrument. I was told I could heal just by speaking to people and many clients say my voice affects them powerfully. I have a gift for teaching & healing intuitively through love. I have taught and run workshops throughout my life! I facilitate a student to trust their own wisdom, because wisdom is different to knowledge. I am especially good with beginners, and have re-trained trained voices to better resonance and technique! I love to see the joy in a student as they free their voice! I make it easy with my True Voice Course® and ‘Toning for Singing’ 12 week course on Skype – www.vidla.org

Bless you and your hearts voice!
